bastos club is mainly focus on developing skills for the new Spanish GCSE Speaking and Writing exams. Both exams and questions are set based on the three broad themes (i.e. ‘Identity and culture’, ‘Wales and the World – areas of interest’ and ‘Current and future study and employment’).

🌵Spanish Club Bastos offers a carefully designed progressive pathway in Spanish, supporting students from their first exposure to the language through to a more natural and confident use of it over time. Through 30/60minute small-group sessions with a qualified native Spanish teacher, students experience Spanish in an interactive, meaningful and memorable way.

- Consolidate and actively use Spanish through guided practice.
- Develop Spanish speaking skills in a natural and comprehensive way.
- Prepare students for future GCSE Spanish with clear guidance and structured support

A pathway for every stage:

Spanish Foundations (ages 7–12) — becoming familiar with Spanish
For younger learners who are beginning their Spanish journey and need regular exposure through vocabulary, listening, repetition, games and simple interaction.

Spanish Speaking Club (ages 12–14) — building confidence speaking Spanish
For students who already have some contact with Spanish and would benefit from building confidence, consolidating and actively using language, and developing speaking skills through guided conversation, role play and picture description.

GCSE Spanish Course (ages 14–16) — preparing for GCSE success
For students preparing for GCSE Spanish, including external candidates, who would benefit from clear guidance and structured support across the key language skills. The course helps students build confidence, improve fluency and accuracy, and prepare for exam-style interaction in a more focused and supportive way.

Spanish Speaking Club +16 (ages 15-18)Spanish as a lifelong skill

For students who might have completed or are finishing their GCSE Spanish studies and would like to continue developing their Spanish in a more natural, relaxed and meaningful way. Students use Spanish to discuss real topics, opinions, culture, travel, future plans and everyday life, with the focus on confidence, fluency and lifelong communication rather than exam preparation.

When:

  • Spanish Foundations (7-12): Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays From 16:30 to 17:00

  • Spanish Speaking Club (12-14): Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays From 17:30 to 18:00

  • GCSE Spanish Course (14-16): Tuesdays and Thursdays From 17:00 to 18:00

  • Spanish Speaking Club +16 (15–18): Tuesdays 17:00  and Thursdays 18:00

  • Spanish Spanish Club +16: 8-Week Semester membership: £200 (1h session)

This May, we’re running a focused Writing Intensive to help students organise everything they’ve learnt, sharpen exam-style writing, and feel clearer and more confident ahead of the exam — with prepared essay plans and model structures they can take into the exam period.

Here, we aim to prepare students for communicating and interacting clearly and coherently in Spanish, narrating events and exchanging opinions while applying properly the grammar structures and making a creative use of them

Likewise, lessons will be focused on developing essay writing skills and translation, where students will be provided with tips and feedback on their writing, as well as a strong grammar base and A* vocabulary and structures.

The materials and learning and teaching approach employed to tackle the Speaking unit will be focused on developing confidence, fluency and accuracy when participating in a role-play, a photo card discussion and a natural conversation.
